The handwoven spun cloth, Khadi, means more than fabric in India today. It is beyond fabric, it is an entire concept, entire movement! On this auspicious day, KR.Couture is observing how Gandhi promoted the idea of becoming self-sufficient and to not depend upon foreign resources to fend ourselves. This movement to own the national fabric also bought the nation around equality, as khadi was to be worn by riches and the poor alike. Gandhi himself spun the cloth and made it obligatory for members of the congress to spun their cloth themselves.
Today Khadi is a fashion statement. It is not only the symbol of India’s freedom but a representation of Indian values, pride and evolution.
